Bug trip

So, after much prayer and indecisiveness, I decided it would be best if I went on my bug class' field trip to southern Utah/ Nevada/ Arizona to catch bugs.  It was Thursday 8 am- Saturday 10 pm.  It was really long.  And really gross.  But it ended up being way fun and I caught a ton of good bugs which was great.

Thursday started with us driving out to Leeds.  We spent 3 hours at one spot, and everyone was super gross after that.  Then we went to our campsite, and caught more bugs there.  I got eaten ALIVE by the mosquitoes holy cow!  It was fun getting to know the people in my class.  In the middle of the night that night, this girl who I was sharing a tent with shot out of her sleeping bag and whispered "hey, are either of you guys awake?"  I was awake because I don't think I slept at all the whole weekend.  So I said "yeah whats up?"  and she said "there are 2 HUGE bugs in this tent.  I think they are dragonflies, but I'm not sure.  I don't have my net or any of my gear"  then I started freaking out and said, "ok, well I have a vial, are you sure they're bugs?"  and she was like "yeah, pretty sure" and she turned on her flashlight and lo and behold they were just little ribbony things that were part of the tent.  Hahahahah so funny.  But it wasn't very funny in the middle of the night.

Friday was another long day of being stinky and gross and driving around for hours to spots to catch bugs.  I got horribly sunburned on my neck.  It was fun though.  We had girl talk that night which was way fun, I felt like I was back at girls camp :)  Saturday I woke up feeling exceptionally gross, and we had a long day of driving and collecting to do.  We eventually started on our way home, stopping at a few random gas stations to catch some of these guys that hang out in Arizona around gas station's fluorescent lights...
super gross, huh?  Well, we got a bunch of them and I currently have one pinned in my collection :)

Here's my current collection, I still have pretty much all the bugs from my trip still to pin...I put a quarter in the bottom left corner for size comparison.  (Sorry the picture is sideways, for some reason it wouldn't let me turn it!)
So we stopped at Mom's Cafe in Salina for dinner on our way home.  It was out of the way and everyone in my car was grumpy we weren't just going straight home.  We got home around 11:20 pm and then I went home and took the best shower of my life.

Anyways, sorry to bore those of you who didn't want to read this, just had to blog about it because it was so traumatic :)  I'm glad I went though!  Sorry there aren't pictures from the trip, I had my camera but didn't really want to document how gross I was.

September happenings

Hey guys.  So we've done some pretty fun stuff lately.  On Labor Day a while ago, we kept up our tradition of going to Thanksgiving Point gardens.  It was funny because last year while we were walking around I was trying to identify all the plants, and this year I was trying to catch all the bugs!  (Oh yeah so if you didn't know, I'm in an Entomology class right now, aka insects.  Its pretty horrible.  I would really appreciate all the help I can get, so send me all the bugs you can get your hands on!!)  So anyways, it was way fun and we are loving this tradition.

Me and Bill ready to catch some bugz

trying to recreate the same picture from 2 years ago (like we did last year too, and fyi we don't know why we were making these faces either.  It was just funny to recreate it).  2009...

so great.  some more fun pics:

It was super fun.

We also went to Lagoon a while ago because Billy's work rented it out for a day.  I can't find the camera with those pics on it right now, so I will put them up later :(

Dallin came through town a couple weeks ago and that is always really interesting.  We picked him up from a 7-11 and he was there with his homeless friends talking to this obviously drunk lady.  As soon as I got there Dallin said "hey sister!" and gave me a hug as he always does.  Then that lady said "hi sister, can I ask you a favor?  Are you mormon?"  And I said yes but I explained that I am literally Dallin's sister.  I don't think she got it but she asked if she could have a ride to like 3 blocks away.  I said sure because we were already picking up Dallin, so might as well pile in all the weirdos.  She kept telling us that her n-word friend was coming too.  It was really funny how nonchalant she was saying it, so me, Bill and Dallin were all cracking up.  She also kept asking me if I could buy her an iced coffee, but she had obviously been drinking and she was carrying a 6 pack of beer!  So I told her no.  It was really weird.  But we dropped her off, then picked up some food and went home to hang out.  Oh and Jose came too, so our apt was pretty dang stinky after the visit.  Don't worry, we cleaned.  Jose sleeping with his leg straight up...

Sorry, no pics of Dallin or us, just of the dog :)

We went over to Steven and Katie's for Sunday dinner last week.  It was so nice of them to have us over!  They got a little tortoise, Doug, and he is the cutest and best thing ever!  It was way fun playing with him in the grass.

That's what's been up lately!  I'll blog later about my bug catching trip....

OH and also we got our Mazda back!  Almost 2 months and a TON of money later, and we finally have it back!  It's very exciting.  Here's a picture of the beautiful sky as I was driving it home from Price yesterday:
Beautiful, right?

ID Cards

Hey everyone, I had to find my social security card so that I can make money from BYU being a TA and when I found my card, it was stored with all of these...  You can see how I've grown up from a little 7th grader to a way cool senior in high school.
I'm pretty sure the photographer told me not to squint for this one
Pretty sure I have bed-head in this one
Wow
That was fun!

Last night of summer

So on the last day of summer, a week ago, we decided we wanted to do something super cool.  So we started out the day sleeping in until noon (whoops) and then researched a little and found out there was a Brian McKnight concert happening in Orem that night!  Who is Brian McKnight, you ask?  I didn't know either until that day.  He is a very very talented R&B singer.  The concert was so so fun!  We got to sit on a blanket and listen to beautiful tunes, eat candy, watch a lightning storm in the distance and the best part of all...we got our tickets for free!  Well, kind of.  We were going through all of our gift cards earlier that day and found a Visa gift card that had $25 on it that we forgot about aka the perfect amount to pay for the tickets.  It was awesome.

Here he is on the piano...

Cute pic, right?
At the end everyone was leaving and we got to go way up close!

This is the only song of his that I recognized.  I have a video of it from the concert, but it wasn't uploading, so this works :)

Don't worry, we wore our turtleneck sweaters and parted our hair down the middle so we would fit in.  Haha jk.  It was so fun!
