Over Labor Day weekend, we went to Mexico with some awesome friends! We went with the Bests, Johnsons, and Costas. We love having such awesome (and organized) friends! The trip was amazing.
We left early Saturday morning and got to our condo we rented around 11 AM. The drive was fun, we all chatted the whole time! We borrowed Bruce and Karen's suburban so we could all go in the same car. That was fun but turned out to be a nightmare at the end of the trip.

We brought a LOT of stuff...and Billy packed it all in the car! Amazing! |

The drive into Mexico was pretty sketch. Lots of people begging for money. Once we got there we changed and headed to the beach. It was kind of a bummer day, rainy and hot. The water was green and felt refreshing though. We stayed for like 3 hours, playing in the water and laying out. After the beach we got all moved in to the condo.

We got all cleaned up and went to dinner at a place called Friendly Fish Taco. We got lost for a bit on our way there but eventually we found it. It was in like real Mexico! Real Mexicans were judging us for being there! It was pretty fun. It made for some awesome pictures! The sunset was unreal! We ate cheap, delish tacos and chatted. Such good times!

This is also one of my favs :) Love that dark blue sky and red chairs |
That night we got back, changed into our suits and went night swimming in the pool and then the ocean!!! It was scary being in the water when it was so dark, it looked like oil. I felt like I was back in high school, we were having such a giggly, crazy night! So fun. We had a chicken fight race in the pool and were getting lots of stares. Love these people.
Sunday morning we got up and went to church! It was fun being in church in another country. We couldn't understand anything that was being said, obviously, but it was still fun. We met a nice couple from Mesa at church which was cool. We had lunch then went to the beach. The water was much more calm and clear this day. We sat out for a while then went back to the condo. We cleaned up, played a game, ate delish tacos the Johnsons and Costas made, then went for a walk to watch the sunset.

After we got back we played games like Mafia and Scum late into the night. Mafia got intense! So funny!
Monday we went for an extremely difficult run on the beach. The Bests did breakfast and then we went to the beach. We did a banana boat ride all together which was super fun except I slammed my head on the water when I fell which hurt. We hung at the beach forever. The Johnsons and us bought mangos on the beach, then rented a catamaran and went sailing. Super fun but it took a super long time. Afterwards we got all packed up, cleaned up, and headed out around 4 PM. Then the nightmare began...

On the drive back, we were stuck in line at the border for 3 HOURS!!!! I kid you not people. It was awful. What made it the worst was that the whole time the car's temperature was getting higher and higher. Billy thought the engine was going to give out when we were literally 50 yards from the border. Poor Liz was getting so claustrophobic so she got out of the car and then Billy got us out of line and pulled over! It was SO sad! The coolant inside the engine was boiling! Not a good sign. Billy handled it all like a champ. At this point it was like 9:30 PM and we still had a 4 hour drive ahead of us. The Costas went and talked with the border patrol people and they came over and were trying to help us, which was so nice. We went to the bathroom at the border and ran into the lady we met at church in the bathroom! How funny is that! She was so nice and it was a tender mercy to see a smiling familiar face when we were so stressed. She gave me a hug and I felt like it would all work out! And it did! We waited for a while and let the engine cool, poured some cold water in the radiator and then started it back up again. We got to cut in line at the border thanks to the super kind border patrol men. Then we zipped on home with no other complications but made it to bed around 1:30 AM. Craziness!!! It was overall a super fun trip with awesome people!!

What a fun trip with a little extra adventure at the end. So fun to go on a trip with so many fun friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! Memories you'll have forever! Magical! Minus the awfulness at the end...but it was still part of the memory and probably proved even more how awesome your friends are :).
